From small town backyard football to the NFL, pro player & coach DJ Boldin has proven himself every step of the way. Being determined to work hard and settle for nothing less than perfection has served him well throughout his football career!
Being the younger brother of superstar receiver Anquan and trying to make it on your own cannot be easy. And it wasn’t! But DJ Boldin recognized at an early age that to be successful it takes more than God-given talent. So in a way it was a blessing to have a successful older brother as a mentor. DJ was able to not only see how much hard work it takes by watching and working with him, he was also smart enough to embrace the rigorous work ethic necessary to be a champion. And against the odds he DID become a champion! But how? How does the younger brother of a superstar step out of the shadow and find success by his own merits? How does one escape from constant comparisons and be seen and measured by his own accomplishments? There is no magic answer here that just anyone can mimic. It’s quite simply not an easy task. But DJ did it!
One thing is clear. DJ not only figured out how to do it himself and become a success in the NFL, he was also able to develop very teachable coaching principles that he passes along to younger players that share his same determination to be great. This is how DJ Boldin has become one of the most in-demand and successful private 1-on1 receiver coaches in the country!
As an athlete DJ is proud of his many accomplishments….Accomplishments most young athletes can only dream of. He was a triathlete star in high school (football, basketball, and track). He was the defensive player of the year in the state of Florida (high school) and a high school football champion. In college at Wake Forest University he earned freshmen All-ACC and senior year first team All-ACC honors, as well as lead the nation in receptions on the season, with multiple bowl game championships. Professionally DJ takes great pride in his playing days with the Detroit Lions, Montreal Allouettes, and Toronto Argonauts. Last, but not least, DJ is proud of his time coaching professional football with the San Francisco 49ers for 3 seasons.
So who better to help shape the success of the next generation than a former player that mastered his skills and earned his way into the NFL ? Coach DJ joined SkillZDr Sports to do just that! We interviewed Coach DJ recently, and here it is in his own words:
I decided to be a private coach because of the personal impact I can have on kids. As a team coach you get plenty of opportunities to impact people’s lives collectively, but you never really know which individual lives you impacted. I love being a private coach because when I coach 1-on-1 I know exactly who I am impacting, and I know the kid is all ears and ready to be impacted!
The best advice I can give to young football players determined to be elite is: “You cannot do what everyone else is doing. If you want to be elite, you must train elite. You will see the difference, and so will the rest of the world!”
